The Bureau of investigative Journalism has a long term project called ‘Dying Homeless’ to count the number of homeless deaths on UK streets.
The number of homeless people has increased in the UK. More than 4,751 people were recorded as sleeping on the streets. That has more than doubled since 2010
The Bureau of investigative Journalism writes “While we hear tragic stories about people who have died while sleeping rough, no-one count how many homeless people die on the street of Britain each year”.
The community is setting out to record these deaths and tell their stories and increase transparency.
If you know that a homeless person passed away you can report a death.
78 people have died homeless since this project started. The counting began in October 2017.
