Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski given the boot from the Oscar film Academy

The two shamed Veteran producers have been kicked out of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.

The decision to exclude Polanski and Cosby were agreed upon by members of the board after their scheduled meeting. The decision comes after the verdict of Cosby’s trial where he was convicted of three accounts of aggravated indecent assault by Andrea Constand. He has been accused of sexually assaulting over 60 women who were a part of the “Me-too” movement some testified at his hearing.

In a statement, the Academy announced that the governing board had voted to remove the two disgraced stars “in accordance with the organisation’s standards of conduct.” The board continued “to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity.”

His wife Camille Cosby commented on a testimony made during the trial Andrea Constand stating that the evidence had been “riddled with innumerable, dishonest contradictions.” She also blamed the media in her statement saying; “This is mob justice, not real justice, this tragedy must be undone not just for Bill Cosby, but for the country.”

Polanski, who has been a fugitive from the US criminal system justice, having fled to Paris while awaiting sentencing for statuary rape of a 13 year old girl , won an Oscar in 2003 for best Director, even though he has lost his membership he will still keep his award.

In 2017, Polanski  made a statement regarding the “criminal incident” in the US in 1978, he said; “As far as what I did: it’s over,`“I pleaded guilty. I went to jail. I came back to the United States to do it, people forget about that, or don’t even know. I then was locked up here [in Zurich] after this festival. So in the sum, I did about four or five times more than what was promised to me.”

Harland Braun, Polanski lawyer, in an interview said the Director was not given the chance to defend himself to the Academy, which he says is at odds with the process outlined Academy’s new code of conduct.

However, there is a provision allowing the board to act whether the process is followed or not.

On Twitter there’s been mixed feelings following their “dramatic exit” from the Academy.

For now we can officially say,  these once honourable public figures who are now disgraced stars have been permanently excluded from the Film Academy.
