Former 5 weight Boxing World Champion Lloyd Mayweather has announced he is coming out of retirement in 2020 and will be working alongside Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White.
Mayweather’s last professional fight was in August 2017 when he beat Connor McGregor in Las Vegas not only to retain his title but also his knock out wins at 50-0.
Since then the 42 year old has participated in an exhibition fight against Japanese kick boxer Tenshin Nasukawa. The undefeated Japanese champion was knocked out within 3 minutes earning Mayweather $9 million (£7 million).
Mayweather has now decided to step out of retirement next year to work alongside Dana White. Could there be another exhibition bout coming up? They were both seen together at the Boston Celtics v Los Angeles Clippers basketball game on Wednesday night fueling his announcement.
Speaking earlier this week to Reuters, Mayweather had decided he would not be returning to boxing and quoted ‘I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth. You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career’.
On a positive note Manny Pacquiao’s camp as welcomed the champ back to boxing. Mayweather has not disclosed what his plans will be.
